The short lines hype is growing and becoming recognised as a sub-discipline of the Big Air movement – it has even entered as a separate discipline in the last stop of the BAKL tour in Cape Town. For those who want to feel the sensation of a short lines session for the first time, or those who want to make that jaw-dropping mega loop and send the kite super low, we have lined up a special two-day clinic on mastering the art of short lines kiting.
We will be joined by the local young and talented short lines master (and TheKiteMag cover star!) Camdyn Kellett. Over the two days Camdyn will take you through the essential theory and techniques behind riding with short lines before hitting the water in the iconic Blouberg beach.
For this clinic we have set a wind window starting on 26 January to 2 February. Depending on the forecast, we will announce the two dates of coaching closer to the time.
Currently ranked #1 in the Kite-surf discipline, winner of the GKA Kite-surf World Championship in 2016 and runner up on three other occasions, Matchu Lopes is a true legend in the world of kitesurfing. Master of big waves and barrels, Matchu’s free-flowing style is the envy of most wave riders, as he combines power, finesse and flawless technique with a style that perfectly captures the surf roots of the sport.
For this clinic Matchu will be there to use his knowledge to improve your riding – he is a highly experienced coach and has taught everything from beginner through to advanced level riding. Off the water Matchu has a well-deserved reputation as one of the friendliest and easiest going kitesurfers you are ever likely to meet… His love for the sport and for life is truly infectious!
This day is the official arrival day and you can kite freely or relax in one of the hammocks on the beach and become acquainted with Ocean Vagabond Lassarga.
Every day you will wake up to the sound of the ocean and start the day with a delicious breakfast. The early birds can also join a sunrise yoga session on the beach. You will make the plan for the day and get ready to hit the water. Depending on the conditions, Matchu will take you to the best spot for the day. Each day you will have four hours of coaching with Matchu, where he will work with you on the goals you want to achieve.
The evenings are reserved for a delicious dinner at the resort, and unwinding under the spell of the stunning ocean sunsets and desert sky.
Departure day. After an awesome time, it’s time to head home. Depending on your departure time, you might be able to squeeze in a last kite session…
Lassarga is the spot in Dakhla which lies at the outermost end of the Dakhla peninsula. It has an amazing wave spot right in front of the report, less than 50 meters from your bungalow, with right hand waves breaking endlessly down the point, and also with a flatwater lagoon spot just around the corner.
